During my lunch break, I drove up to Frederick, MD, to pick up another of Kent's xmas presents, fill the gas tank, have the car washed, etc.. While zipping along, I was listening idly to NPR as they broadcast one of their local phone-in programs about local DC/MD/VA politics.

Why do people insist on calling a radio program when they have no clue what they're talking about?

I couldn't be a talk show host. My mantra would be "call back when you've done your homework," or the like. I have to do that often enough with my parents, perhaps it would be easier to do with complete strangers.

Nah, better not.

Some people just love to hear their own voices on radio even if they just spout a torrent of BS. It happens here too - it can make good listening although I tend to shout at the stupid ones.

I used to shout at the radio. Now I just change stations. Sadly, the NPR listeners tend to be the somewhat brighter ones.

I'm trying to get an image of telling my poor 83 year old West Virginia mother, "Call back when you've got a clue!"

I think I'd be waiting a very long time!

I have a somewhat unusual relationship with my parents... we've never hesitated to tell each other "you're nuts!" when it seemed appropriate.

Kent can always tell when I'm on the telephone with my mother. My part of the conversation goes something like this:
"Mom, what were you thinking? ... What on earth possessed you to do that? ... You did WHAT? Why???" And so on.

Family. Bless their hearts.

The only call-in radio I ever listen to (and that not very often) is the local sports call-in show that's on after Red Sox games, and I've heard the host come pretty close to saying exactly that.

Come to think of it, that host isn't with the station any more.

I'm not a creepy stalker, I swear. You signed up as interested in Meetups for Canadians in the Baltimore area. Since nobody has stepped up to take over the site (they want too much $$), I thought I'd friend you here, and let you know that we've got a couple of Yahoo groups. The first is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CanucksInBaltimore/?yguid=196904617, the second is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canadianslivinginthestates2/ - I'm sorry we didn't find one another earlier, as my husband and I just had our holiday party this weekend and we had a group of Canadians here eating butter tarts, drinking good beer, and talking about home.

PS: I have a friend who's just moved out here from San Diego to be with his boyfriend (Navy) who is in to country dancing. I wonder if you two might hit it off. His LJ name is Esprix.

Oh- I guess I should say that I got the email saying you were interested in meetup, and I just googled you. That's how I found your LJ. Hooray for the internet!

Thanks for the note... I've signed up to the groups. Heaven knows how I've managed to utterly miss them until now! And I'll look up Esprix on LJ shortly!
