At our club nights, we sometimes play two-steping and line dancing music during the breaks. I've had a request for a song called "Sugartown" but neither I nor the requestor have a clue who recorded it. Anyone have pointers?

[livejournal.com profile] kent4str called from work yesterday afternoon asking if me to substitute for him at the Chesapeake Squares club night. While I wasn't thrilled to have to my plans for the evening shot to hell --I had planned to do some additional preparation for a C1 dance I'm calling tonight-- there wasn't much choice.

The dance was entirely Mainstream (two squares) and Plus level (one square) dancing. The newbies are still having some trouble finding their feet but we workshopped a couple of calls during the breaks. By the end of the evening, they were much improved.

This coming weekend is Pass the Ocean, Hon! with callers Dayle Hodge, ChiChi Hoffner, Betsy Gotta and Ben Rubright. Our new dancers will have lots of Mainstream floor time.

BTW, if you're a GCA caller attending this fly-in and would like a calling slot, leave me a comment with your preferred calling level; [livejournal.com profile] kent4str and I are co-hosting three GCA calling hours on Saturday and Sunday.

Square dancing to-do list:
  • finish reviewing & prepping for tonight's C1
  • collect Jon & Shel's shirts & badges at DC Lambda Squares on Thursday;
  • pass 2009 convention brochures to Steve & Don to take to Seattle next week;
  • pack for fly-in at Rehoboth Beach (iron club shirts as needed);
  • pack one square dance calling sound system to take to Rehoboth;
  • transplant EZPass transponder from my car to the minivan for the Bay Bridge toll;
  • clean up guest room to house Ben Rubright next Sunday evening & deliver him to the airport Monday;
  • collapse from exhaustion Monday.

Our small C1 group was supposed to dance tonight (me calling) but eVite reveals many of our regulars can't make it. Indeed, there are only six confirmed dancers; the not-yet-responded list is so small and largely composed of folks who almost never attend that we have better odds of winning the Powerball. *sigh*

Ah, well... I can use the evening to pack for the weekend and the new C1 material I composed will get used soon enough.

I didn't get done everything I planned for tonight, but I did catch up on the backlog of registrations for the upcoming 2009 IASGDC convention. Having entered 28 new registrations, we now officially have 327 registrations.

There's about a dozen who have registered online but haven't yet mailed a check. It's a situation I hadn't considered previously: I'm going to have to set a deadline by which payment is to be received to hold online registrations. In the interim, I'll send friendly reminders to the folks outstanding for 30 days or more as of May 1.

Our hotel should start accepting reservations as of tomorrow but knowing Marriott chain, I'm not entirely sure that will be the case... their reservations system is ancient, quirky and not overly reliable. We'll try making our room reservation tomorrow and will be making a major announcement on the web site and lgcwsd list as soon as we have a successful reservation.
