As mentioned previously, Kent and I are getting new wireless phones, transferring our service from AT&T/Cingular to Verizon Wireless. Since Cingular took over, our reception sucks and my phone goes to "roam" in our living room. Not good.

For reasons I don't understand, Kent's order was processed flawlessly while mine was hopelessly munged and took significant time on my part to straighten out. They had my record on file but had attached Kent's name to it as well, then couldn't figure out why the credit check was failing while using his name and my SSN, etc...

Anyway, that's all in fixed and in progress. My phone should be here tomorrow.

The part that concerns me (apart from the ordering errors) is that our two Cingular phones were always in my name. Cingular has no record of a Kent Forrester since he's never been a customer. Yet Verizon Wireless requested --and Cingular sent-- a mobile telephone number in my name to Kent's phone without checking with me first.

Admittedly, the end result is exactly what we wanted, but it's a little disturbing to think my cell phone number could be yanked away by anyone without so much as a passing query for my approval. Is this normal, or are they seriously screwing up proper procedures?
