Did you feel the shock wave of the economy expanding suddenly yesterday? That was me. Or more precisely, my credit cards putting on weight.

Since AT&T Wireless was taken over by Cingular, my cell phone service has sucked bilge water. A couple of weeks ago, Kent and I both ordered Motorola e815 phones with a Verizon Wireless plan. His purchase went through without a hitch but mine was caught up in processing. After much time on the phone and ultimately getting a conference call of the vendors and Verizon Wireless personnel all together, I finally forced all of them to fix their errors and proceed with my order. The new phone should be arriving tomorrow. That's $200 per phone (before rebates which can't be claim until six months have elapsed) so far.

Of course, I'll need a belt clip and car charger for the new phone. Add shipping and it's about $30.

The new phone has Bluetooth but none of my laptops, workstations or servers do. Another $30 for a Bluetooth USB key fob for the laptop to see how well this works.

We're heading to the trailer this weekend. The campground theme this weekend is "Hawaiian Luau" so our co-trailer trash insisted I get leis from the a local party store. It's also Kent's 45th birthday Saturday so we need extras for our guests as well as our campsite. Another $30.

Our square dance club's Harper's Ferry Hoedown XI is coming up November 11-13. We traditionally have stickers for dancers to apply to their badge so we can see who's registered and who hasn't. While buying the leis, I saw some appropriate glittery bear stickers and another set of glittery fall leaves. Bought 'em both. $15.

Our storm door has needed replacement for some time: the hinges were worn and broken in two spots. It was a fairly ugly thing anyway so this is an opportunity to put something a little classier on the front entrance. I went by Home Depot to order the Anderson HD3500 FV (white with brass accents). Because our door is 84 inches high instead of the standard 80 inches, it's a special order. I left a deposit of $173, about one third of the total cost.

Total: $678 to date, another $346 due when the new door arrives, for a total of $1,024. So much for my goal of keeping the credit cards completely zeroed for one solid month.

Yeah, but think of how much you're saving on Coke products!

I figure I've saved about $50 so far. If I stop eating entirely, I should be able to pay off our new front door in a couple of months. :-^
