Aw, crap!

I was in the middle of a fantastic foot rub chez Jeff in Arlington when Kent called with some rather startling news: his minivan was gone.

He parked it at St. James' Church around 1 PM & finished unloading it around 1:30. Some time in the middle of the afternoon, in broad daylight, someone got a hankering to steal a clearly empty 1998 teal Dodge Caravan.

We are not amused. This only 3 months after my Civic was vandalized in a different area of Washington DC.

God, I hate this town.

Seems we are all having car problems this weekend. Hope you find it okay.

I'd be happy if it's found in little chunks or never at all... we were already thinking about replacing it with a newer model. At least it was stolen before we replaced the tires, something we were planning to do this week.

Go West?

[Okay, that wasn't helpful. How awful, really. And Paul's car was broken into in a churche parking lot while he was square dancing inside, about two years ago...]

My inclination is to flee north rather than west, but it was before the latest incident.

I am transparently plotting to get everybody I like somewhere near me.

Your transparency cover is blown now, I would imagine.

But that's alright, you're still cute anyway!

I'm game, but you'll need to cut housing costs by half before I could afford to make the move. I'm sure I'd like my new neighbours though. :-)

Then come to Boston. We have a lively queer dance scene here, ECD, Contra, C/W, and yes, even Squares! Besides, the Gay Blades are in recruitment mode! You could move into Roslindale and fit in with all the other 'mos. ;-)

I was thinking of going a little further north than Boston, but it would be a nice place to stay for a while on our way to Canada.

It's horrible. The frustration and helplessness we all feel when these senseless acts against us occur. It's no consolation in the short-term, but thankfully no-one was hurt. It's just metal and plastic, and can be replaced. Still a pain in the butt though. Hugs.

Or have some twit break into your car and take a few select items and leave the rest.

Back in January my car broke broken into and I think it may have been when I accidently left the damn think unlocked and had my sunglasses taken, the glove box riffled through but nothing in there taken, the trunk gotten into my green took kit, an old army blanket and an army amo box with some flairs and a set of jumper cables were taken, the CD player was left, they never did find the coin thingy that had some change in it. Go figure!

Another incident about al month early resulted in only my cell phone charger stolen and one or two minor things but the old charger that was claarly on the back seat was still there and it does not work too well btw. :-)

So far no one has bothered with the truck yet. Knock on wood.

Hope they find it.

and if they do, and you want to unload it onto a true charity case, we'd take it in a second. Our van has over 140k miles on it and needs at least 2 quarts of oil a week. We've taken to calling it the Exxon Valdiz, mostly because of the huge oil spill that's taking over the driveway.

The Caravan had a bit over 70,000 miles on it when it vanished. It will be interesting to see how far it travelled, if it is returned some day. You're at the top of the list if/when Kent opts to ditch it.

If there was nothing of any value (sentimental or otherwise) in the van, then perhaps the insurance gods have smiled upon you.

Yeah, we're kinda leaning in that direction currently. I'd prefer to go car shopping on our schedule rather than be compelled into it, but better now than later in the spring/summer when we're travelling or trying to head to the trailer.
