A friend of mine & I are planning to go ice skating at Pentagon Row in Arlington, VA, Sunday (Feb. 12) afternoon, tentatively 1 PM onwards until we've had enough --since I'm from Canada & he's from Maine, it could be all day. It is an outdoor rink so we may be shot down before we start if the weather turns foul.

If anyone is interested in joining us, admission is $7, skate rental $3. For more information or just to peruse a truly crappy jump page, click here.

Ooh! Ooh! Me! Me!

I'm planning to spend Saturday night with Eric, but he'll be working on Sunday. Perhaps you could swing by his apartment and collect me?

Sure, let's talk on Saturday or early Sunday to coordinate addresses and check on weather.

I realise YOU can't remember a time when you weren't able to ice-skate, but, coming from England where we have proper er winters the way God intended um warmer-than-normal-Ontario winters, thanks to the miracle of the Gulf Stream, I don't remember a time when I could skate.

That's not quite true -- I can go forwards, and (being right-legged) I can kinda-sorta turn left. I can stop by a) running out of kinetic energy, (b) running into someone/something, or c) falling over.

I recall going out about age 16 with a group of friends to a frozen-puddle outdoor ice-surface (not a "rink" by any means, but quite large), this would have been about the tenth time skates had been on my feet. My "friends" played crack-the-whip with me at the end. I recall spinning in a graceful circle on my back as I whizzed across the ice, clearing snow and other skaters out of the way. The view of the sky and trees, turning as it did, was quite interesting.

But I've never really liked skating since then.

So I'm always envious of those who can. In a distant, not-actually-wanting-to-myself way, you understand.

Have a fabboo time, but don't play crack-the-whip with some poor unsuspecting incompetent when you do.
