I've finished with my xmas cards for the season. I'm doing only a very, very limited set this year: just the immediate family. Call it budget cutbacks, call it a lack of time, call it whatever... I just don't have the resources to do the 100+ cards as in prior seasons.

In other nightmares, [livejournal.com profile] kent4str and [livejournal.com profile] cuyahogarvr got the xmas tree and decorations out of storage. It's now assembled and we hope to have it decorated gradually over the next few days as time permits.

This is our first year with an artificial tree. Click here for the tree-hunting safari of 2006 or here for 2007

I went with an artificial tree 5 years ago and have never looked back. :-)

I miss the story of the hunt! I look forward all year to your warped sense of humor as embodied by the Great Christmas Tree Hunt. Sigh.

Bob & I aren't sending cards out again this year, either. Three years ago we decided it was to eco-unfriendly and since then, it's been calls or emails.

As far as the tree goes, we love the smell of a fresh tree, but the nightmares of our first Christmases with a real tree haunt us. These days, we don't even put up a big artificial tree. We put the little tree that is up all year up on a table, decorate it and use that. It makes the tree feel special.

This really does give a whole new meaning to being green. I appreciate the lack of cards, I do the same ... but your concern for the emotional well-being of the tree is truly moving.

Merry Christmas.

The difficult part is that once the holiday is over, we have to un-festivate him and place him back on the floor. We do leave the lights on him because he becomes cranky without them.

What, no sacrificing an innocent tree to the baby Jesus? I am disappointed :(
