Gay marriage bill passes Canadian Senate

Bill C-38, the bill legalizing gay marriage in Canada, passed 3rd reading in the Senate last night by a 2:1 margin. After royal assent (the signature of Governor General Andrienne Clarkson) expected later today, gay marriage becomes law.

My grandmother sent me e-mail this morning to ask when Kent & I will be travelling north for a proper wedding. So much for Kent's plan for us to sneak into the country quietly without alerting the family.

On the 6 PM (EST) CBC radio news, The World At Six (http://www.cbc.ca/w6/), it was mentioned that bill C-38 was given royal assent this afternoon. Gay marriage is now law. Let the celebrations begin!
