A Near Oops
Dec. 22nd, 2006 11:05 amAfter last night's graduation party, there was much cake left over. Ultimately, it was determined that I should take it to work today and make it available in the pantry for anyone who would like a piece.
Except that I nearly forgot about it. The cake was safely stored in the trunk of my car, the flattest surface available, but out of sight, out of mind: I only just remembered it was there. Fortunately, something sparked a memory about and we had paper plates & plastic forks on hand so now the cake is being whittled down to nothing in the pantry as I type this.
It would have been rather ugly to rediscover the cake in the car in, say, two weeks or so.

Because I only ever drove short distances and it was February, the inside of the car was nearly all the time below freezing. It wasn't until late March that things began to get ugly. But then, thanks to the activity of Streptococcus lacti and similar beasties, it was seriously nasty. Soaked into the indoor-outdoor carpet wot lined the trunk (and, worst, puddling in the well under the spare tire).
At least cake usually doesn't go rancid.
