It would have been rather ugly to rediscover the cake in the car in, say, two weeks or so.
coulda been worse. when I still had a car, living on Bellamy Rd, after a grocery run there was an escape of milk in February in the trunk (well, cargo area behind the back seat below the backhatch). Because I only ever drove short distances and it was February, the inside of the car was nearly all the time below freezing. It wasn't until late March that things began to get ugly. But then, thanks to the activity of Streptococcus lacti and similar beasties, it was seriously nasty. Soaked into the indoor-outdoor carpet wot lined the trunk (and, worst, puddling in the well under the spare tire).
