This Week in Square Dancing
Aug. 5th, 2011 10:56 amEvery now and again, our usual square dancing schedule flips into overdrive.
On Monday night, we danced C2 to John Marshall in Vienna, VA. We had the option of dancing C1 Wednesday evening to Doren McBroom, but opted to skip this week as I had a long list of tasks to complete before the end of the week.
Last night, I called an Advanced workshop for the Chesapeake Squares. We tackled:
I love running workshops: I can delve into definitions and theory in depths that otherwise wouldn't be appropriate for regular club nights or dances. It also forces me to scrutinize the official call definitions and consider modifiers (eg. trail off & roll) that dress up the calls a little without being excessively difficult. Some for the stranger dance-by-definition possibilities have unusual starting positions so I need to be correspondingly more creative at designing setups.
Tonight, I'm calling an Advanced dance for the Zig Zaggers in Vienna, VA. At the moment, we have nearly three squares who have RSVP'd with the possibility of a couple more bodies making an unplanned appearance. I know a few of them are novice A2 dancers so it may be a somewhat challenging floor to call to, but I'm sure I'm up for it and we'll have fun.
