Thursday evening, Tom & Steve flew down to DC from Boston to attend a wedding of Tom's twin brother (the straight one). By all accounts, it was a lovely wedding: everyone said "I do" at the correct intervals, no one burst into flames whilst entering the church and no one died. Victory!

We spent the bulk of Saturday being tourists in downtown DC. [livejournal.com profile] kent4str had an early morning square dance gig but met up with us at the Foggy Bottom subway station around noon.

Our first stop was the Lincoln Memorial and the reflecting pool along the Mall. We paused at the Nurses' Monument near the Vietnam Memorial, then headed over to the Korean War Memorial. From there, we strolled along the reflecting pool to the World War II Memorial, then across the Mall to the Washington Monument. There was a Jim Henson/muppets display at the Smithsonian underground bunker so we killed an hour there --hiding where the sun could not find me was an added bonus. (BTW, did I ever mention that Jim Hensen was totally hawt? And, sadly, Beaker has become my role model.)

The weather was perfect for it all: blue skies, moderate temperatures and low humidity. It was almost like we weren't in DC! (The last time I was on the Mall, we were freezing our collective asses off.)

We were home by shortly after 4 PM. Sane people napped while Tom and I headed to our hottub to soak our aching feet. Ahhhh!

Dinner that night was at the Banana Cafe in SW DC with local Craig R. The place was loud --per usual-- and the food was great --per usual. We did a little walking tour of the neighbourhood to wear off a few more calories, then did a small driving tour of nighttime DC.

Sunday was slightly more relaxed: we started at the Air & Space Museum out by Dulles, VA. (Yeah, like we haven't been there often enough the past couple of years. :-)) [livejournal.com profile] kent4str took us on a driving tour of Georgetown --as best anyone can with the traffic conditions of Georgetown, anyway. We did get "Doris Day parking" for the FDR Memorial though, then wandered over to the Jefferson Memorial. We opted for an early dinner at Mr Henry's, then dropped the guys off at National Airport.

Sadly, the weather doesn't seem too conductive to flying so the guys may be landing at Boston much later than they were planning. More news when it happens.

Yup, we were tourists this weekend so I had my camera with me. And cameras may be used for photographing more than just scenery.

Earlier this week, my home XP workstation died. It was clearly a software issue and one that I had seen before (lsass.exe issues). The machine would boot nearly to completion, then choke, die and automatically reboot once again only to choke & die ad infinitum.

Just this morning, [livejournal.com profile] kent4str's XP workstation also died, the first time we've ever had issues with it. In this instance, the hard drive seems to have croaked.

After a couple of hours of tedious work, my XP box is back in running order once again. [livejournal.com profile] kent4str's machine however will have to wait until I can get a replacement hard drive. I suspect I'll be able to rescue the data from his old hard drive but I wouldn't trust the boot blocks again.
