Earlier this week, my home XP workstation died. It was clearly a software issue and one that I had seen before (lsass.exe issues). The machine would boot nearly to completion, then choke, die and automatically reboot once again only to choke & die ad infinitum.
Just this morning,
kent4str's XP workstation also died, the first time we've ever had issues with it. In this instance, the hard drive seems to have croaked.
After a couple of hours of tedious work, my XP box is back in running order once again.
kent4str's machine however will have to wait until I can get a replacement hard drive. I suspect I'll be able to rescue the data from his old hard drive but I wouldn't trust the boot blocks again.
