Cleveland, Day 4
Jul. 2nd, 2008 11:04 pmIt's been a long, long day.
I was up late last night doing laundry; there was much folding & packing to tackle this morning.
kent4str took some items to the hotel, beginning our transfer from Casa
ohwolfman to the Renaissance.
We spent some time staffing the GCA table at the caller school, distributing & collecting course evaluations, answering questions, providing occasional advice on calling & delivery, etc.. Later in the morning, I danced as a checker for the newbies and the intermediate classes as they worked on sight resolution.
The convention stuff were short-handed for laying down the flooring mats in the dance halls. The flooring contract stipulates the convention committee provide one volunteer per 1,000 square feet of flooring: that should translate to about 30 bodies. We had ten at any given time. Most folks couldn't easily bear the repeated standing & kneeling but we were happy for any time they could give us. Memo to self: I want a team of at least 25 people for a six hour block for DC's convention next year.
We've cleaned out most of the GCA class rooms and the registration desk: nearly all of the GCA leftovers have been moved to our room so they can go to DC with us when the convention ends.
As I type this, the caller school attendees are doing their practicum portion: they're calling a square dance in the Gold Room on the 3rd floor of the hotel for their peers and whoever happens to drift by. Tomorrow morning, there will be another GCA school dance for the public for which the students may participate if they wish.
There's an outdoor symphony concert at 9 PM followed by fireworks... I intend to sleep thereafter.
