Cleveland, Day 5
Jul. 3rd, 2008 11:50 pmIt's been another long day.
The alarm was supposed to sound at 7:30 AM but somehow it either never went off or all three of us slept through it:
kent4str roused us at 8 AM. We didn't necessarily have a scheduled appointment but we needed to get our DC Diamond Circulate table set up before the volunteers would begin their shift.
Per usual, ours was the first table set up in the general reception area which meant that we were having to field questions from various people who really actually wanted to talk to the host convention folks. Ah, well.
After some rearranging of tables and assembling of displays, all was under control. I slinked off on my own to work on my notes & presentation for the GCA's presentation to the IAGSDC delegates meeting.
The morning wasn't without drama though. I received a not-quite frantic telephone call from Jeff M who had borrowed my car for the 10 days we'd be in Ohio. Somewhere in West Virginia, he had stopped for something but the car wouldn't start. After some effort at resurrecting the car and nullifying the car alarm, I gave him my AAA membership information to get a two to a nearby garage. Per our suspicion, the battery was at fault and all was well once it was replaced later.
The IAGSDC delegates' meeting was well run, I think: three hours was booked but we ended 40 minutes early. I think my own report urging local-level support for new callers went over fairly well; at least no one seemed to fall asleep.
The GCA meeting went even faster: a full hour was allocated but we were done in about 45 minutes. And it's now official: Ken Ritucci is the new vice-president and Arlene Kaspik is the new secretary, replacing outgoing ChiChi Hoffner and Michael Levy respectively.
It's dinner time as I write this but I'm not feeling very hungry yet.
