My office is deserted. So far, there's me and two secretaries. There should be 100 people in this particular wing of the data center. Of the 30+ people on my instant messaging list, only four are logged in. Even the traffic during this morning's commute were incredibly light, as though it were 2 AM on a Sunday.

Despite --or perhaps because of-- everyone's chronic absenteeism, I've managed to close off one Sarbox evidence request, finish two work tickets, print & fax a letter to the IRS and prep several minor projects for work next week, all in the span of 1.5 hours. There is now only one more minor must-do item for today and I'm done, at least for work.

Anticipating early dismissal today, I'm planning to get my hair cut, having lunch and buy some groceries before heading home. I'm also hoping for a brief nap before going to Art & Tony's place tonight for their holiday party in Baltimore. Beyond that, it should be a light day.

After last night's graduation party, there was much cake left over. Ultimately, it was determined that I should take it to work today and make it available in the pantry for anyone who would like a piece.

Except that I nearly forgot about it. The cake was safely stored in the trunk of my car, the flattest surface available, but out of sight, out of mind: I only just remembered it was there. Fortunately, something sparked a memory about and we had paper plates & plastic forks on hand so now the cake is being whittled down to nothing in the pantry as I type this.

It would have been rather ugly to rediscover the cake in the car in, say, two weeks or so.
