Office Luncheon
Sep. 12th, 2005 02:30 pmThe Unix Support team working in my data center for my business group had a lunch date booked at management's behest for several weeks now. Our manager is typically pretty good about taking small teams out for a luncheon from time to time to chat in a casual atmosphere. I missed the last one because I was at the IAGSDC convention in California that time, so I was looking forward to this opportunity to have a nice meal on the company's dime.
At 10 AM, my manager dropped by my cube to ask me to select a restaurant, make reservations for noon, print up directions and send pages & e-mails to the other 8 people who would be joining us.
WTF?!
I'm pretty sure I'm still a Unix Administrator and not the office social director and/or party planner. At the very least, if I had known I was going to be given the task, I would have started shopping around last week for a more varied menu to ensure our vegetarian/vegan crowd would have at least as much variety as our carnivorous team members.
The good news is that everyone seems to be happy with the restaurant I did select (on a friend's suggestion) and I was able to circulate copies of their menu & directions in e-mail and quickly arrange carpooling before 11:30 AM. The bad news is that now that several people have raved about how quickly I could put it together, I fear I may be asked to do it again.
Shoulda sent 'em all to McDonald's.

Do they sell indulgences on eBay?
