Hoping for contact info
Sep. 13th, 2006 08:33 amI hear that Chris Ricciotti recently suffered a severe hand injury requiring surgery. There was a collection taken up for him at the recent Boston Uncommons fly-in to help with his expenses. Does anyone know if there's a mechanism by which friends of Chris who weren't at the fly-in can contribute? Any pointers are welcome!

That answer is to make out a check to LCFD with a note on it saying it's for the Chris Ricciotti fundraiser, and send it to

Date: 2006-09-13 06:38 pm (UTC)Many contra dance groups will open the second half of the evening, after the refreshment break, with a Hambo. The band will just sort of start it up, and those who know it will come out and dance it, and that signals to the rest of the crowd that the remaining contras of the evening will follow.
Sometimes, if the band is able to, and they are feeling like being "traditional" about it, the players will go stand in the middle of the dance floor and play from there. That may, of course, be only part of the band. On the night in question, just the fiddler and the concertina player were there, but that's plenty for a Hambo, since the melodies define the beat so well even without any accompaniment.
