As expected, my mid-year performance evaluation went well. Company rules dictate that my boss may only indicate if I'm "on track" (or not) to achieving the goals set for me back in the early part of 2006: he's forbidden to say anything more. We were able to check off all items as "on track" quickly, then talk about issues coming up on the horizon for our team and division, all of which I knew or had anticipated.

One more piece of paperwork out of the way...

So, in this culture, you are reviewed on your ability to play well with others, inspire etc? I find that odd. Just the goal oriented track, so who cares if you crawl up and down someone to advance your projects? I'm not saying you do, just curious. Kinda find it odd.

Our company is extremely wierd when it comes to performance reviews. Despite being 60+ years old, our HR department works like a car manufacturer: if they don't come out with an entirely new rankings model every year, they feel they've failed the marketplace.

At the moment, we look at results only during the mid-year evaluation with a satisfactory/unsatisfactory grade, while the year-end review will evaluate more characteristics. In prior years, all personnel within a given division were then ranked with the bottom 15% penalized no matter what they did good or bad; I'm told that system is gone currently in favour of some new & unspecified system.

Utterly bizarre and unpredictable, but it's what we got. :-(
