bjarvis: (sleeping)

Another morning. Ugh. Mornings when one must check out of the hotel are the worst: there is no possibility of blowing off events to sleep in. And we lost an hour of sleep due to daylight savings. And worse yet, I was complicit in the pain of arising before noon by agreeing to meet with a couple of dancers from Atlanta to discuss their club's potential bid for an IAGSDC convention.

Did I mention I hate mornings?

Since we hadn't nailed down precisely when to meet with the Atlanta guys, [livejournal.com profile] kent4str & I were down at the brunch terrace for 9 AM. At least getting a table and filling our plates at the buffet was very easy and we could dine at a somewhat relaxed pace. By 10:30, however, the Atlanta boys still hadn't appeared so [livejournal.com profile] kent4str & I wandered over to Anne Uebelacker's Advanced hall for a while, danced a while, took some photos and chatted with various people. On our way back to our room to pack & check out, we found our Atlanta boys at brunch so we paused to discuss their bid.

The Atlanta bid is fairly complete already: they've used the published Denver, Cleveland and DC bids as a structure and starting point for their own. This makes perfect sense since these bids essentially follow the IAGSDC's published standards, are pretty complete and were all successful. Atlanta has some interesting ideas for their version of the fun badge tour and pre- & post-convention tours. We didn't get as far as discussing convention rates and I have no idea if Atlanta is an expensive city so I don't know how their rates might stack up against others. Since they've never hosted a convention before, they certainly have a novelty factor in their favour.

Check-out took some time. The Ramada is a small hotel and they have only two check-in/check-out terminals sharing a single dot matrix printer at the front desk. I had the misfortune of being behind the guy who represented a large group who was also staying at the hotel: they had to print out some 20+ sheets of receipts in duplicate for him before they could process my own. Ah, well... I was in no rush and too mellow to care overmuch.

After pre-registering for next year's fly-in, saying our good-byes and taking a few last photos, we stopped at A&W for milkshakes on the edge of town before heading home. I spent much of the travel time dozing; fortunately, driver [livejournal.com profile] kent4str did not.

Once home, unpacking, starting laundry and catching up on e-mail was a relatively simple process. Feeling lazy, I made dinner out of a frozen pizza but the long burn of calories kept me from sleeping very well overnight. Still, it was nice to be back in our bed again.
