Some ugly stomach bug is causing various folks to drop like flies around my office. I know of at least three people who called in sick this morning. A few minutes ago, my boss stopped by my cube on his way home early... he's looking pretty green right now too.

Hopefully, it's not a bug easily transferred to others as I have must-attend meetings today, tomorrow & Wednesday. Evil pathogens will simply have to wait until Thursday to add me to their list of achievements.

That idea works too... I don't drink coffee so the bug would pass me by. In lieu of carbonated or caffeinated beverages these days, I've been keeping a case of apple juice in my filing cabinet. Additional vitamin C can't hurt either if there's a noxious bug on the loose.

Hmmm. If you're trying to avoid the sugar in carbonated drinks, apple juice isn't a good choice; it's at least as sugary as anything that fizzes. Most apple juice is processed half to death, concentrated, diluted, and sweetened to the point where its link to the original fruit is tenuous at best. And it's not much of a source of vitamin C, unless it's been added artificially.

With that said, I'll take apple (or orange, cranberry, mango, etc.) juice over Coke any day.

Well, if the labels are to be believed, the apple juice has 1/3 the sugar of coke classic, ounce per ounce. Probably still more than our evolved monkey bodies should ingest though.
