Power still off

bjarvisOur electricity still hasn't been restored. I was hoping the outage would be brief but I can only assume that our area is lower on the priority list than many others in the greater DC area. The cooler, dryer air is a wonderful change from the past week, although without working fans, all we could do was leave the windows open overnight. It didn't help a lot... it was probably the most uncomfortable sleep I've had in months. I considered taking the day off or attempting to work from home just so I could restart/reprogram appliances the moment the power came back, but decided that there's nothing to do but mope in the interim. There's no guarantee the power would be restored today in any case.
Our stove & water heater use gas and the water & telephone still work so we can live comfortably, albeit by candlelight, for as long as needed. We know from prior experience with Hurricane Isabelle a couple of years ago that the contents of the refrigerator and freezer will be fine for at least 3 days. I can always use the power inverter to run the fridge or freezer for an hour each to buy another 3 days as needed.
We're still planning to head to the trailer tomorrow, but it would be a great comfort to know the electricity is back on before we leave. If nothing else, I'd like to get the server back online before we go so that my e-mail may resume.
