My Canadian passport arrived this morning, taking about two weeks from the time I submitted it for renewal. Not bad.

So, I gather then that you're a dual national? Which country do you vote in?

I can only vote in the US.

In Canada, voting is a function of residency, not citizenship. While I am still a Canadian citizen, I haven't been a resident since 1996 and so I'm no longer on the voting lists. I could be added to the lists, but only if I promise to return to Canada within two years. I have no plans to move back so I don't qualify.

how much is a Canadian passport these days? and how long is it good for? They were all 5yr max, but I have a dim memory of announcements that 10yr limits were coming. mine has to be renewed by April of next year.

Mine was renewed for five years... I'm good until 2017. I think the fee was $120 but am unsure at the moment. I think there was a slightly higher fee for us non-residents but can't recall.
