A complete stranger just walked by my cube, announcing she was soliciting orders for girl scout cookies. I've just ordered five boxes of thin mints. Beg Ask nicely and I might share. :-)

A man with cookies!

hello, my name is chris, and it's been three years since I last pigged out on Girl Guide Thin Mint Cookies.

[Hi Chris]

when I first came to this continent, I thought the regular Girl Guide Cookies (one row of chocolate, one row of vanilla) were the Bees Knees.

Then several decades later I discovered Girl Guide Thin Mint Cookies.

I became an abuser.

For several years I would happily buy my supply from Leah, a gen-U-ine Girl Guide at our church. Maybe no-one but me noticed that my orders were getting bigger and bigger (one year I ordered an entire carton of a dozen boxes). Or maybe I was just fooling myself that no-one noticed. I would binge (but NEVER purge), and then eventually go into withdrawal when the supply dried up, I'd whinge a bit and make my friends' lives miserable for the ten days it took me to get over the shakes, and then we were fine until the next round of selling.

Then one year, nothing happened. I eventually asked Lois (mother of Leah, who I hadn't seen for about a month) and it turned out that my pusher, er, enabler, um, vendor had grown up and was no longer a girl guide. EEEK! Catastrophe! what was I going to do???

Even though it had been months since GGTMCs had passed my lips, the withdrawal symptoms came back full force. Then next day, going into the subway, there was another girl guide at Wellesley station selling boxes. I got three.

One of those boxes was gone 2h after I got home. At this point, I looked at myself in the mirror, brushed the crumbs out of my beard (and caught them, and ingested same, I wasn't THAT reformed) and realised that I Have A Problem.

I built up another set of Suppliers getting 'em for me, from mothers-of-Guides-at-their-work (just like you), and even by post, I got Girl Scout Thin Mint Cookies from the USofA. But I rationed myself, very strictly, NO MORE than 2/day.

A friend of mine observed (between cookies) that GGTMCs are probably more addictive than nicotine. He's right.

Which is why, even after I've had to give them up completely because of the diabetes, I know I'm still a GirlGuideThinMintCookieAholic, and always will be.

I just wanted to share that story.
