I'm not doing the movie meme.

I'd like to say I'm not doing it because I don't want to f*** up everyone's web browsing but the flat truth is that I don't really care much for movies. I'm not sure I've seen more than 1-2 per year for most of the past couple of decades. Nope, haven't seen "Brokeback Mountain" and am not planning to.

There's enough drama/comedy/horror/war/fantasy/explosions in my real life available at no (financial) cost that paying $10 for a movie ticket seems somehow excessively masochistic.

Same here! The South Park movie was one of the few movies that I saw in a theatre which I really enjoyed.

Yeah, that was a good one... we saw it with friends at the Potomac Yards cinema in Alexandria, VA. When the characters started singing "Blame Canada!" my friends were screaming hysterically at the movie, then pointing at me. Bitches.

Last movie I saw in the theater was "The Incredibles." Our last date before Keely was born.

Probably the last movie I'll see in the theater for a few more years.

Some local DC cinemas are having family-friendly matinees on weekdays. Ticket prices are greatly reduced, kids under a certain age are free, space is made available for strollers, etc., and the house lights are only dimmed 2/3 rather than full so parents can monitor/assist their kids more easily. I've heard one theater has an intermission mid-way through the movie to help parents perform kiddie maintenance (diaper changes, bottle feedings, etc.) without having to miss scenes.

Sadly, we are nowhere near civilization, and that sort of kid-friendly stuff might as well be happening on the moon :P

Plus, many of the movies *I* have wanted to see lately weren't rated G.

Walk The Line
Rent
Harry Potter 4 (after I've seen the DVD's of the first 3)

I rarely go to the movies either... I enjoy em, but if I see em it's usually when they are dvd'd. I checked out this movie meme thing and realized that I could never *think* of what are my fave movies. If there had been a list of a bunch of them to choose from, yeah, I could do that but just pulling them out of my head. Yeah, I skipped the meme :P

Yeah, I'm having a difficult time naming five movies I've really liked. I go dry after "Blade Runner"...

Amen.

There is something vaugely creepy about paying ten bucks to eat popcorn and enjoy someone elses pain and heartbreak...

Now if there are sword fights or laser battles, that is a different matter...

Exactly. Who needs to go to a theater for that when we have LJ?

Now if there are sword fights or laser battles, that is a different matter...

And big explosions. And invading aliens.

Big explosions are key. Invasions are key.

Otherwise, I completely agree. I don't get why movies are so vastly entertaining. But then, I'm out of the loop on a lot of things.

But you & your dear hubby are so nice to look at that no one cares how out of the loop you might be. :-)

Well, isn't that a nice way to work a compliment into the conversation. [pats chair] Come sit by me.

And tell me about my eyes.
