Could be a lease. I had a co-worker who would lease a porsche. Said it made her feel good. I tried to point out that for the money she spent leasing the car for 3 years, she could have owned another car, but she didn't care. As long as she could make the payments, she'd drive a car beyond her means.
. My suspicions are along the same line as abqdan. LOTS of people live beyond their means. Once you have a regular job with a regular paycheque (er, in his case, paycheck), credit companies are quite prepared to lend significant numbers of $$.
at least it's a prudent tangible asset, as opposed to vacations or frivolities.
