I had two fillings in my upper left jaw replaced this afternoon. The anaesthetic has long since worn off and while my teeth don't hurt per se, my cheek & jaw ache from the repeated stretching, pushing & prodding. Ow.

The replaced fillings weren't causing me any problems. My dentist decided from recent x-rays and based on the age of the fillings (20+ years) that they should be replaced. Since when do dental fillings have a best-before date?

I'm wondering if my dear dentist simply had a boat payment coming up soon...

Ow.

Yes, they have an expiration date. THose things aren't *permanent*. Every 20 or so years they have to either be replaced or risk cracking one and then replacing it.

Poor baby. The boat payment idea isn't too far-fetched. When I moved to Boston the first dentist I tried (a big ol' faggot with a high-end practice) told me that all my fillings needed to be replaced. What he didn't know is that my mom worked as a dental assistant for 30 years. She knows teeth. There was nothing wrong with my fillings aside from the phantom dollar signs visible only to the dentist.

I switched dentists forthwith. The current guy replaced ONE filling in the last ten years.

I'm probably going to be hunting for a new dentist but largely because the distance between my current office and his has become problematic, esp. with DC traffic being as ugly as it is. Figures.

that's the first time I've heard YOU complain about having your jaw stretched too much.

(and where would be the fun in a blowjob if you've got a mouth also full of novocaine?)

Most of the fillings that I had done as a kid have fallen out within the last ten to fifteen years, since they were never meant to last more than 20 years anyway. Or something like that. It's a bitch, but one by one I am having to replace them with crowns. Good thing you replaced yours before they fell out, helped by (say) a corn nut or something else crunchy -- when they do, they often take a piece of the tooth with them, which forces the need for repair work. I'm still waiting for the funds to get some of my needed dental repair.

I've been somewhat lucky, I guess... never had any fillings fall out or even threaten to, at least as far as I can tell. I did have rebellious wisdom teeth but those were sent into exile in Feb of 1991. Kent has had some terrible problems with fillings popping out over the past number of years though.

Now waitaminit... you have dental repairs pending funding but you found the money to fly to Palm Springs & back? :-)

I don't know a dentist who accepts AAdvantage miles.
