Waking up at 8:30 AM wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. Perhaps that it wasn't a work day made the standard cringing about getting up unnecessary.

The traffic gods smiled upon us this morning: we were indeed downtown to the Beacon Bar & Grill for brunch by 10 AM. Even parking was relatively easy. Sadly, the restaurant gods weren't quite as kind: brunch there doesn't begin until 11. Instead, [livejournal.com profile] otterpop58, his cousin Adam, Kent & I ventured up the street to Annie's for a leisurely meal.

We were collectively back at the HRC building with lots of time to spare before the dance began at 12:30 PM. I was getting a little worried about the low numbers of dancers attending until 12:25 when they began swarming in.

[livejournal.com profile] otterpop58 ran us through alternating workshop tips of A2 and C1. I learned plenty (both about dancing and a bit about teaching), and had reinforced even more. It's always refreshing to experience calling by someone who was not one's own prior instructor: the difference in flow, style and selection of calls is markedly instructive, even if a little frustrating & humiliating up front.

The workshop was followed by two more hours of regular dancing at various levels. The theme was nominally "Leather & Kilts;" while I brought leather, I was overheating so frequently & severely during tips that several minor costume changes were required throughout. If the weather hadn't been so warm & sunny, perhaps the heating issue wouldn't have been quite so severe.

Towards 5 PM, [livejournal.com profile] otterpop58 went off to visit with family in the evening. Kent & I headed for home, stopping briefly at a friend's place en route to repair his wireless network. After a dinner of kernel corn & salsa chicken, we caught up on last Friday's "Battlestar Galactica," then I headed to the basement computer room to search out more music for future square dancing gigs.

I wish I didn't have to go into work tomorrow --oh, wait... I say that every weekday-- but I'm as rested as I'm going to be so taking a day off wouldn't be personally very productive. Tomorrow is election day in Canada so I'll try to sneak in an early evening nap before heading downtown to watch the results roll in.

At first I thought Andy might have done an intro to C1 and that you had learned Plenty, the call. My bad.

Nah, we had enough issues in A2 to work on that an intro-to-C1 session would have been heavy on the schedule. On the other hand, I've seen more C1 dancing in the past 72 hours than I did in all of 2005. :-)

See now, if you had a kilt, you'd have better ventilation and wouldn't overheat.

True, but it's a pile of cash for something I'd wear rather rarely. Those dollars are required more elsewhere.
