So, What's the Weather Like in DC?

bjarvisSnow. Lots of snow.
The latest snowfall started slowly in the early afternoon yesterday. It was little more than a few snowflakes blowing around in the wind. By 8pm, it was still only a few snowflakes but it had accumulated to a layer of about 1.5 inches in depth and then appeared to stop.
When I went to bed after 11pm, the snow had resumed but was still little more than a few blowing flakes.
For no particular reason, I woke up briefly at 5:30am today. More snow had accumulated overnight and there was a significant amount falling but no wind.
Later this morning, the fun began. Currently, there is a strong 20-30mph wind blowing snow around and it is coming down much faster & heavier than before. We have several inches now on the cars and front porch. Schools and governments are closed again --some for Thursday & Friday as well-- and the mass transit system is restricted to underground subway trains. I haven't listened to the radio yet but I expect the airports are closed today too.
And apparently there is much more snow yet to come before the precipitation drops off in the mid-afternoon. You can imagine my excitement at this prospect.
Here's the view from my front door --I was venturing no further than this.
I predict much digging in my near future. At least the electricity is still on. And speaking of electricity...
When I was awake very early this morning, I checked the utility's outage website on a whim. For the most part, power was restored but there were still pockets of 51-500 customers not yet restored around each Potomac and Beltsville, MD, but otherwise green across the board. As I write this, Beltsville is resolved but the power loss around Potomac has expanded dramatically to include Bethesda, the I270 corridor up to Rockville and east into Wheaton. Indeed, we now have pockets of 1001-5000 customers without electricity around Aspen Hill and Fort Washington. Ugh.
