I didn't dance tonight --I was on the telephone through the early part of the evening with work-related conference calls-- but watched the class from the sidelines.

Tonight's new call: hubs/rims trade back. It looks pretty easy but check with me next week when I actually have to dance it. There was a re-teach of the 'disconnected' concept for those who missed it previously. The explanations for how it works for shape-changing calls is a little wonky but I'm sure I'll think of a way of getting my head around it after a little sleep.

The good news is that the end is in sight: barring issues, we should be able to wrap up the remainder of the C2 list in the next three classes (Sept 28, Oct 4 & 19 since we're not dancing Canadian Thanksgiving/Columbus Day). We have the hall until Dec 14 so we'll use the remaining sessions to practice and just dance; I'm hoping to split my time between the Monday C2 sessions and [livejournal.com profile] justetthon's Monday C1 dances.

Rims/hubs always screwed me up when I took C2. For some reason, I got the concepts of rims and hubs switched around, and I never could dance it reliably.

Maybe THIS year.

I still can't dance that call reliably.

That actually makes me feel much better. Honest. :)

Everybody has calls that are their own personal nemesis. It doesn't matter what level you dance, you still might have problems with some call that is several levels lower down.

J. Gail in Vancouver has a particularly passionate hatred of "Load The Boat", for example.

John did a great first run through using a thar star. It was a perfect way of demonstrating it using the wheel analysis and the "rims" and "hubs" were obvious. After doing several moves in that formation, it was easy to see it from a way or a line.

But then, "disconnected" makes perfect sense to me - go figure.....

It's one of the calls that I get wrong a high percentage of the time when it's not completely obvious. To me, both rims & hubs are the inside because on my bike, I put the wheel on the rim, so it's *inside*, and I rarely deal with the hub (that's what the bike mechanic deals with).

Ohhhh.... yeah, that would confuse me too and since I do the same with my bike, I'll have to make sure I sort them out.
