I couldn't sleep after 4am so I thought I'd do something seriously mind-numbing in the hopes it would bring on sleep. It didn't work, but I'm largely done the final reports I need to submit.

We had 878 paid registrants, including 39 first-time attendees and 18 day-trippers. This doesn't include the 12 calling staff, their spouses and four audio & flooring staff.

Because of where the halls were located in relation to each other, I had the perception there were LOTS of dancers around all the time. Even the MS hall was full frequently because of it's location in relation to where dancers first encountered. Excellent decision!

I remember when I went to the straight nationals in Denver in 2004, there were vast areas that just felt empty inspite of 7,000 being registered. I think 50% of the people just traveled there to tour around and not dance at all--maybe a random tip or two here and there to say they did. Our convention in DC? Just the opposite.

Chicago can certainly look to the scheduling and hall location of DC as 'best possible world so far' model. Caveats of course are that there are very few dancers in the early morning and at mealtimes, and the Specialty tips looked like they got a bit out of hand! But if anyone felt they didn't have ample opportunity to dance and didn't, it's their own fault!

Next year, you'll be able to enjoy Chicago I daresay!
