My flight from Dulles to San Francisco has wifi!

I'm 38,131 feet above sea level somewhere over Denver and I can check my email, update LJ and Facebook and update DC Diamond Circulate files, all from seat 19A!

According to Speakeasy.net's quick and dirty speed test, I'm getting 1922 kbps download speed and 296 kbps upload. I so wish I had traceroute on this laptop... I'd love to probe the network to see how this is set up. :-)

Now if only my Crackberry could get a signal... My Crackberry is now getting a signal and is going insane downloading hundreds of emails and Facebook updates. I think it's going to burst into flames from the sudden traffic.

Since our house sits just above 5280 feet above sea level, we are permanently in the mile high club!

I hope this doesn't mean the advent of cell phone chatter on planes is upon us. I can't bear the thought of being trapped next to someone yelling into their cell phone for a couple of hours. I would have to kill them. Sorry, but it would be necessary.

There's talk about implementing cell service extender-towers or something along those lines in the subway here; it's already annoying listening to the Xers and Yers blare their ringtones and music from their phones.

I may just have to resort to drastic action if such a thing as you propose would ever happen.

We're already there here in DC. Even my Sprint phone gets service in the Metro tunnels. It's aggravating, especially when the kids get on after school.

Agreed: murdering someone for yacking on their cell phone while trapped on a cross-continental flight is perfectly justified. No jury would convict.
