Winterizing

The 2008 camping season has come and, sadly, gone. This past weekend was our last trip to Roseland Resort for the year.

In all, there were no more than about a dozen people on the grounds: Matt & Troy with their dobermans on the hill above us, Steve in the trailer below us, the other new couple and their husky below and to the west of us. The guys in the trailer immediately to the west of us came in Saturday afternoon to winterize their trailer, then were gone again within a couple of hours.

The place was so very quiet: no disco music from the dance hall, no chatter from the pool deck or outdoor patio, no muffled conversations from the various trailer decks around us. And it was unseasonably warm too --the lower sixties Fahrenheit at night-- with largely clear skies.

The leaves are past their prime. There are still a good many yellow, orange and red leaves on the trees, most of them had already blown away. It must have been a beautiful sight a couple of weekends ago.

Winterizing the trailer itself was a relatively easy affair: the interior was cleaned, perishables were carted out to the minivan and anything potentially attractive to rodents or insects were sealed in plastic bins. The plumbing was flushed with antifreeze, the exterior seams were checked and resealed where appropriate, the battery was removed, the propane tanks closed off, the electricity & water were shut off and the entire beast was wrapped in a tarp to protect it from the elements for the next five months.

The Roseland Resort seasonal campers are going to be convening in Pittsburgh February 6-8, 2009, for our annual reunion. We've spent so little time at the trailer this season I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again if only briefly.

The new camping season will open in April of 2009. I've heard from Doug & John who have taken site Rose Hill #212, just to the west of us... it will be exciting to have new neighbours on the hill!

What's the hanky code for "into window frame & flashing silicone gel"?

Since it involves a window, I'd say it's white velvet for exhibitionist/voyeur.

Just what does paper in the right pocket mean, anyhow?

I must not be on the Roseland-specific friends list. In the past two years, I've read about you going there and opening up for the year, closing down for the season, but I can't remember reading that you've done anything specific there except 'seeing everyone.'

What, dear man, should I read into that?

That you haven't been paying attention? :-) Click here for my Roseland-tagged past entries. (http://bjarvis.livejournal.com/tag/roseland)

We haven't had many trips though this year... there's been a lot of schedule conflicts. Worse, although the season opens next April, we're likely blocked from attending as we'll be up to our ears in IAGSDC convention stuff at that time. *sigh* We are tentatively planning a full week leading up to the July 4 weekend though... I hope we do manage it.

Okay, I'm convinced that at 12:15am DC time you are paying attention! ;-)

I hope you get there more often next year AFTER convention for the required decompression. I think Danny and I should plan next weekend to be decompression from here, now that you mention it!

The leaves you shot are about like ours now, just beginning to fade and fall. some trees now are now either partially or totally bare, others still largely full of leaves but losing them non the less.

Sidewalks and stuff are covered in wet leaves right now.

I would love to come join you guys at some point next season - I miss Roseland ( I didn't make it to any of the camping places down here yet either!)

Do Canadians spell "winterize" with a zed?

I didn't notice whatever else you said. ;-)
