About two weeks ago, my windshield was wacked with a flying rock while I was scooting around I495 to work. I didn't think much of it at the moment, but later that day I got a good look at the ding and the spreading cracks. [livejournal.com profile] kent4str urged me to get the windshield replaced before winter freeze/thaw cycles made it worse.

I called our insurance company who hooked me up with a glass replacement firm who does house calls. The appointment time came & went with no replacement in sight. Apparently, there was some sort of data entry error which prevented the call from being dispatched. Yeah, whatever.

My schedule was a nightmare last week so I didn't get a chance to reschedule until Friday. That appointment was this afternoon. [livejournal.com profile] cuyahogarvr, because he loves me so, cancelled his afternoon plans so he could be here for the replacement work.

The replacement guys came & went: apparently, the windshield they brought wasn't the right type for my car. Yeah, right. They'll be back tomorrow and are waiving the $100 deductible for [livejournal.com profile] cuyahogarvr's troubles.

Here's what my car currently looks like (sigh):

My car's on its third windshield. One of the occasions was caused by a huge rock (6-8 inch diameter) that fell out of a truck that was hauling rocks at 65 mph ahead of me on the freeway. I thought I was gonna die when the boulder came hurtling toward me - I'm actually amazed the windshield maintained its basic integrity. (I have no clue how the second cracked windshield came about - I just noticed it one day).

Every time I've had it done the cost of windshield was less than my insurance deductible, so it was all out of pocket.

Be glad that the DOT standards mandates that safety glass in windshields is *laminated* safety glass rather than tempered which shatters in a gaziilion iddy-biddy pieces.

I think, actually, most auto-glass places make house calls.

And now, dammit, I've got an earworm of the jingle for Giant Glass, who advertises on Red Sox radio broadcasts (which means I've heard their jingle a lot).
