Tonight's Square Dancing
Sep. 23rd, 2008 11:37 pmI called Mainstream and Plus for the Chesapeake Squares tonight, the first club night since their fast-track Plus class last weekend with
caller_dayle. We had a great turn-out of three squares.
I had originally planned to run through the Plus list, practising as much as possible. Alas, that was derailed early on but with good cause: one dancer couldn't make the Sunday session so he lacked eight calls on the list. While there wasn't enough time to drill each of the new calls as much as I'd have liked, I was at least able to introduce him to acey deucey, dixie grand, 3/4 tag, explode & (whatever), spin chain & exchange the gears, trade the wave, ping pong circulate and grand swing thru.
We also drilled load the boat... a lot of folks had difficulty with the centers' part. Diamonds were kinda OK, although some folks were confusing 'cut the diamond' with 'flip the diamond.' I had hoped to work on 'relay the deucey' but we ran out of time.
There's a supplemental workshop/dance this coming Saturday but I'll miss that too since we're heading to the caller/cuer mini-con in New Brunswick, NJ.
