Baltimore Pride Parade

We were calling for the Chesapeake Squares in the annual Baltimore Gay Pride Parade this afternoon. The parade is smaller than DC's --thank god-- but much more festive, I think... It was all over in 45 minutes instead of the 2+ hours of slogging. No rain this week!

How did the dancing work? Were you dancing on a vehicle, behind a vehicle or in a fixed place?

We've done contra dancing behind a vehicle although it was quite a challenge with starting and stopping, hearing the music an caller over the other noise but it did attract lots of attention. This year we did it at the City Hall plaza which was the destination of the march.

For DC's pride parade, we put the calling equipment on the back of a pickup truck and danced behind it whenever the parade came to a stop. Otherwise, the club members were circulating about, giving out business card-sized invitations to our upcoming open house.

In Baltimore's case, the club opted to dance in front of the pickup truck rather than behind. The streets aren't quite as level --cobblestone in one stretch-- and it was relatively hot this afternoon so we kept dancing to very brief sequences for fear of exhausting our folks too quickly.
