Calling update

Kent & I did a fast fly-by of Chesapeake Squares' club night tonight; I'm still sniffling from a bug last week and Kent seems to be coming down with one of his own. Figures. The problem with a calling couple sharing gigs is that they tend to also share scheduling issues/conflicts. Ah, well.

Anyway, we hashed out with Dayle that Kent & I will now be calling two club nights per month, while Dayle takes the remaining club nights. In December, Kent & I will take the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays.

We've also set a date for a caller workshop, focusing on A2, for Saturday, Jan. 7, 12-3 PM chez nous. If you dance A2 or higher, we'd be more than happy to have extra victims volunteers to act as checkers. A light lunch will be served. Wounds will be administered to as needed

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the title "caller" quite yet. There's a certain standard of proficiency I still need to attain, and I have yet to call more than a single tip at something other than a regular club night. In my mind, until both of those happen, I'm still just a newbie or apprentice caller at best.

I dunno, I've run into more than a few contra callers who were happy with the title and didn't have *nearly* the crisis control skills (or concerns) that you do.

Yeah, I can think of counter-examples in the square dancing field as well. I'm determined to be *not* like them. I'm a firm believer in being the example you'd like to see in others, although I'd be the first to admit I sometimes don't meet my own standard.
