There's lots of snow about today. The TV news said it was the heaviest snow fall yet this winter but I overheard folks in the street commenting that it wasn't that bad. In any case, it's lovely to look at:

After much walking, it's time to relax a little:

Since I grew up in the northeast (and since you're well familiar with the weather in the great white north) I'm sure you can identify that the snow is indeed wonderful when it comes down. The aftermath though is another matter. When I made my mind up in 1993 to leave Houston with its intolerable heat and soak-your-shirt humidity I decided that I was going to move north again. However, I decided I could not hack the northeast winters with the bitter cold as well as the aftermath of snow... ugly slush and dirty snow. Unless you live in ski country snow is a PITA.

I had a revelation when I went to GALA 7ième in Montréal in twenty-o-four. I asked my host why the parking meters were placed next to the buildings on the street rather than by the curb. Answer: There's so much snow that the meters would be buried for months if they were placed at the curb! :) Unless I'm going on a ski holiday I don't want nuttin' to do with snow.
