I had this odd choice while zipping along the highway towards the office this morning.

Should I continue driving behind the dump truck, letting the sand, gravel & grit sand-blast away the paint of my car, or do I continue driving behind the micro sub-compact car with a box spring & mattress twice the size of the vehicle precariously tied to the top and flapping dangerously in the wind?

There wasn't much choice: there were only the two lanes and the two vehicles were driving in lock-step with each other 5 mph below the posted speed limit.

*sigh*

I ultimately chose the ant-sized car with the box spring & mattress on the theory that death would come quicker if not somewhat padded.

On the good side, the days are indeed getting longer: this is the first commute in months that I didn't have to turn on the headlights of my car the moment I left our driveway.

I always drive with mine on all the time, daytime, night time, rain, sleet, sun, snow, it don't matter. It's a safety reason for me. :-)

they're always on in Ontario. All new cars sold in the province since - oh, ages ago, 1993 or something - have to have daytime headlights installed.

The daytime lights are actually not the same as the nighttime headlights - the latter are considerably brighter, having to light your path; the daytime ones are to let others know you're there.

It really does increase safety; like a centre brake light at eye-level for a car driver behind you.

Oh yeah, we have the daytime lights too and not all cars sold here do but we do have them, the 3rd brake light has been a standard thing on cars since 1986, trucks and vans since 1993.

One issue I find w/ daytime running lights is some people don't understand that just because the dash lights are on, it does not automatically mean the rest of your lights are as I see people, dim dusk w/ nothing but their daytime lights on and nothing else.

Since my truck has neither, I just pull the knob fully on when I start the car and when I shut it off. :-)

I noticed the sunlight today too - - miss kate and I did our morning walkies in pre-sunrise light - but enough to notice. Walking the dark has been, well. dark. I am so looking forward to the 5am to 10pm days of summer.

Do you caffeinate in the mornings or are you anti-coffee?
or do you (shudder of evil) drink a coke or something?

Most of my caffeine comes via Coke Classic but seldom during the morning; apple juice is my drink of choice in the morning.

Yay! Sunlight!

This morning's walk was rainy but bright!

And there'll be sun this afternoon. (Sort of; there's fog right now.)
