From My Grandmother
Jan. 30th, 2008 09:24 amHope you have a good Day. We celebrated here by burning down a house which, I understand, was one of the first houses to be built in Drumbo. It was quite close to several others and the firemen were afraid that if it got going in the right direction, it could take out the whole street. It's the most exciting thing that has gone on here.
My grandmother was willing to torch an entire block of her village in honour of my birthday! How sweet!
Top that, betches! :-)

Date: 2008-01-30 11:34 pm (UTC)Brian's boyhood home in northern Ontario burned down (but not, I b'leeve, on his birthday).
The house that burned today, as reported by Brian's Grandma, was in Drumbo ON, which is not north. It's south of me in Toronto, f'rinstance. It's about halfway between Woodstock ON and Kitchener ON, latitude 43.16N. By way of comparison, it's south of both Portland OR (46N) and Portland ME (43.39N), and almost exactly the same latitude as Milwaukee.
As to keeping warm - well, it is rather chilly and howling a gale hereabouts today. Maybe that's why the locals set it ablaze!
I stand corrected!!
