It's Over

Christmas has finally ended for us. The tree we so lovingly killed for the baby Jesus has expired: it's been shedding needles at an incredible pace despite our watering and embalming efforts.

Yesterday, the ornaments were removed and repackaged; today, the lights were taken down and the vegetation disposed. Furniture will be placed back where it was tonight and all will return to normalcy once again.

Scene of the Crime Scene of the Crime
See the bare spot encircled with pine needles? We were thinking of creating a pattern in white chalk to indicate where the victim was found but decided it was redundant.
Follow the Trail Follow the Trail
No matter how gently we lifted the tree corpse, it shed needles constantly through the living room.

It used to be deep green and full. Now, it's half brown and increasingly barren. There's a metaphor in here somewhere but I've decided to ignore it.
Curbside Curbside
This is how Christmas ends: not with a bang but with a decaying pile of vegetation left at the side of the street for the county recycling services to collect in the morning.

My tree is still up and decorated and it's still green, but then it's an artificial tree so it just needs to be dismantled, folded up and put back in it's box for storage. :-)

I'll be tackling that this weekend.

my tree is still up and decorated and its still green, and it's still real. But then it's a Norfolk Island pine and lives in that spot all year long. I've got lightweight decorations, and no lights, but it looks quite festive. But the holidays do end (today is January 3 / ten lords a-leaping), so the decorations will come down shortly.

are you sure your efforts for watering were sufficient ? (the evidence is they were not). You know, if you took the tree into the hot tub with you on a daily basis, I'm SURE it would have been happier and lasted longer. so what's a little tinsel in the pump when you compare to a longer life for your sacrificial tree?

hang a little mistletoe from its boughs and bears could have snogged beneath the mistletoe... I tell ya, it's a win-win situation.
