bjarvis: (passport)

I attempted to visit the Canadian embassy to sort out my passport issues but it was a wasted effort. The staff indicated this was a consular matter, not a visa/immigration/etc. matter; consular matters may only be handled during consular hours, 9 AM to 12 PM Monday-Friday.

In short, I have to take another chunk of my workday off work to get a replacement passport. Since I'm UNIX Primary all of next week, it will have to be tomorrow morning.

Grrr.

Truly, I have no idea. I would have thought consular matters are bigger issues which don't fit into the usual pigeonhole bureaucracy, such as political asylum, emergency evacuation of citizens and such; I'd have thought replacing a lost passport to be a routine function performed by the same team which processes visas and conducts immigration interviews. Go figure.

If I may...
A visa/immigration matter is a matter that concerns foreigners in Canada or willing to go to Canada.
A consular matter is a matter concerning Canadian citizens that need assistance abroad...
You can't expect a public servant (from any citizenship) to think both ways at the same time... I can tell!!! :-)
