Behold the Dorkness!
Aug. 14th, 2007 01:07 pmI don't realize we were being photographed while teaching a Plus square dance class a week ago, but clearly it happened: this photo is on the DC Lambda Squares web site.

Last night's Plus class went pretty well. The new Plus dancers recalled 'relay the deucey' surprisingly well from the prior week. They ate up diamond formations, 'diamond circulate,' 'flip the diamond,' 'chase right' and 'grand swing thru' with ease.
Long-time square dance caller Butch Adams was attending as well, getting to know the dancers and what they're capable of doing in preparation for a workshop he'll be leading with them this coming Saturday. He also had a few tips for us which I'll analyze and incorporate into our next course; there's only two classes and five calls left to this course and
justetthon is teaching next Monday while we're in Canada.
In general, Butch gave us a very supportive review for the course progress and our teaching style. He facilitates local caller discussion groups periodically; if we're available, we'll likely attend the next as it comes up.
PS. I'm calling in Baltimore for the Chesapeake Squares tonight.

Date: 2007-08-14 08:27 pm (UTC)the photo looks in focus, except brian's mike cord, for a short distance in either direction from the lower hand. shirley the cord isn't divided as if it wuz an earphone cord going to two speakers.
i'm so confoozed.

Date: 2007-08-14 08:51 pm (UTC)It does it in front of his pants, too, and to a lesser degree and 180 degrees of where it passes in front of the floor. I wonder if it's some sort of shadow from the flash.

Date: 2007-08-14 09:26 pm (UTC)watchit buster - you're not THAT much younger than me.
I wondered about flash-shadow, but the "dual cords" appear about as far apart when the background is Brian's pants AND when the background is whatever the backdrop is behind the two of you. The distance to the background (and thus the location of the shadow) is significantly different in the two places, so the distance between image and shadow should be different too. It doesn't sound right.
Were you under fluorescent lights? the only other thing I can think of is maybe brian's hand was moving and the cord is seen in two locations under the 60Hz strobe effect of fluorescent lights. But that explanation only really works if the rest of the image (ie the two of you) were stationary on the same timescale; and the rest of the photo (including the bits that are most likely to have perceptible motion on a shutter-click timeframe) seems to be in good focus.
it is a puzzlement.
