The Last Class

bjarvisLast night, we had the final class in a series of Monday nights in the current DC Lambda Squares Mainstream course.
Like many of the other recent classes, it was a little rushed. The original fourteen week course was severely crunched to ten weeks by a number of sad surprises. We all would have preferred to extend the course appropriately but the stated goal was to have everyone dancing the Mainstream program in time for this coming weekend's Pass The Ocean, Hon, in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Despite the stuffing of the schedule, our nine new dancers held up very well. There's still minor confusion between "run," "trade" and "circulate" in the heat of battle but that's also been the case with the 30+ week courses DCLS has run. A little verbal prompting helped smooth out "spin chain thru," "recycle" and "spin the top." I'd have liked more time for thars, lefty calls and flourishes.
The next three club nights will be heavy with Mainstream dancing --in addition to PTOH in Delaware this weekend. The extra floor time should increase their confidence and recall dramatically.
There is no official word yet on a Plus class for the summer but I'm still hopeful that will proceed.
