Quoting from e-mail of earlier this morning:

Dear Square Dancers and Friends of Warren Jaquith:

I am sorry to report that Warren passed away peacefully at 12:40 am this morning, with his partner Tom at his side. We have lost a truly wonderful and loving person. Warren has been such an instrumental part of our club and the square dance community, and he has been a true friend. We will miss him.

Tom has asked me to express his appreciation for all your love and support, including the many messages of love and concern that have been left on his phone. Information regarding services for Warren will be announced as they become available.

Please keep Warren, Tom and Warren's family in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks,
Larry Ferri
President
DCLS

Despite being somewhat braced for this possibility, this is still a painful blow. Warren taught me Plus and A2 (well, re-taught me Plus after a long absence from dancing) years ago. He was a fixture at DC Lambda Squares for nearly all of our 25 years, calling regularly two club nights per month and alternating years with Dayle Hodge at Harper's Ferry Hoedown.

Warren was invariably kind, gentle and supportive as a caller and instructor. He always encouraged [livejournal.com profile] kent4str and me in our aspiring dance calling career paths, and we shared tips several times in the past few of months. He was one of the first people to sign on to our C1 boot camp last October (as a refresher... he had danced C1 in the past but was rusty) and was a regular our follow-up Wednesday night session.

His absence will be keenly felt in the coming weeks and months. The club will survive and we will all carry on, but we've lost one of our greatest friends.

Brian, is there any chance of setting up a special "site" where people could be invited to write in, to share their memories of Warren? I'm sure someday Tom would like to have those, from people all over the country... as Warren was a mainstay in many of our lives. Warren was one of the very first "angels" who taught me to dance, way back in 1987. He goes back, way back, with the likes of Betsy Gotta and Tom Sellner, calling as teenagers with the two of them. Warren will be sorely missed, that is for SURE. Ett

I don't have the skills or facilities to set up a site as such, but if anyone would like to leave thoughts or comments here, I'll be sure to print them to pass along to Tom.

I'll forward your idea to Happy (DCLS web master) to see if he has ideas.

ok, sounds good

Sorry to hear of your loss. Ugh - This is a month of death. I've heard of at least three just within my organization.

My Thoughts

This is truly tough. As a newbie to the square dance community, I've only danced to Warren a few time, but remember him as always smiling and very energetic. He will surely be missed.
And it's obvious from those whose lives he's touched that he was a great friend to all.
