Roseland Leather Weekend

bjarvisI'm back from a lovely weekend at the trailer in West Virginia at Roseland Campgrounds. Friends Brian H. from Baltimore and Andrew from NYC joined us; sadly, trailer co-owners Jerry & David weren't able to join us due to family obligations in Colorado. Somehow though, we managed to make a dent in the vodka supply without them.
The weather alternated between gruesome (temperature in the high 90s and oppresive humidity) and horrid (sudden violent thunderstorms). Overall though, I didn't mind. This is our first season of camping (if we may still call it that) without a tent. While unfortunate tent campers in our neighbourhood were either being broiled in their own juices or washed out to sea, I caught up on reading back issues of Harper's in air conditioned comfort, listening to the romantic sounds of raindrops on the roof. Ahhhhh...
This was officially Roseland camping theme for this weekend was leather so I was adorned appropriately for at least Saturday night: the dead cow collection is simply too stifling to wear any time but during the cooler hours of night. I bought a black leather cowboy hat ($40) from ER Room, a Pittsburgh leather shop that had set up in the exercise room of the club house. Kent bought a hat too. Rather, he had me buy it for him since he left his wallet at the trailer and was too lazy to walk back to get it. I should be able to extract some mileage out of that in the next week or so.
I was happy to spend some time catching up with Clay & Kevin of Cleveland, as well as quality drooling time over Alex & Lonnie of Morgantown, WV. Met Tom & Bruce from Cleveland area as well... woof! Definitely need to keep in touch with them. And we have a date with Sam when we return in two weeks' time. Photos coming later this week.
We're heading back July 29-31; with a little luck, Jerry & David might be able to meet us there. Mannassas-based friends Cal & Eric are going to be at Roseland as well... they've talked about buying a permanent site there and I'm hoping to persuade them to buy the trailer below ours and adjacent to The Bobs, a couple from Morgantown, WV, who we met through Cal years ago. More dirt as it develops.
