AC/DC is coming up in two more weeks. I've just dashed off a note to Doran, caller of our Wednesday night C1 group to ask if I could test-drive some of my first attempts at composing C1 choreo during a tip. If he declines, I'm fine with that... it would just be nice to test the material on people I know relatively well for their feedback before inflicting it on the greater world.

I'm not a caller, but I'm guessing that "Circle By 1/2 by 3/4" is gonna feel like lots of spinning around. And Scoot Back, Boys Run, Cross Roll has the boys doing lots of running and ending up in nearly the same spot.

Re: circle by 1/2 by 3/4... I had the same thought a while ago. When I danced it with three others as a standalone experiment it felt OK, but I am curious how non-me dancers deal with it Wednesday evening. If there's the slightest wince, I'll chuck it.

Now that you mention it, yeah, the boys are doing a lot of jogging. I'll mull that over to see what I can do to sort that out. Thanks!

I might bump down that circle by to something a little smaller to reduce the whirling'n'hurling.

But I'm otherwise *very* impressed with this choreo!

(Must...resist...urge...to..."research"...)

I'd be happy to give you some pointers sometime over the weekend if you want.

Note that he didn't limit his offer to square dance calling . . .

And who's to say I'm qualified in that area anyway.

As I've still yet to see the schedule, I have no idea how my time will be spent.

I'm hoping to have the schedule this Thursday afternoon at our last planning meeting prior to the event. I'll pass along what I get.

I want to listen too.

Your mileage may vary...

It looks like you've used a big variety of C1 calls. That's great! I find it tough to write choreo for my current dance level, so more power to ya! Below are some thoughts that went through my head when I was reading through 'em.

C1-2:
"Slide, Girls Run, half-sashay" seems odd to me. The girls are going circles around the boys. Maybe that's fun, I haven't danced it. You could replace "girls run, half-sashay" with "scootback, boys run."

c1-6
"Step to a Wave" before "Alter the Wave." Hmmm. Guess it depends on the floor as to how much cueing you'd like to use.

C1-10
You have Fan the Top followed by AD. That's 5/4 around for the centers. I'll groan at you for anything over 3/4 around, but that's me.

C1-12
Not sure I'd like to be the centers on Fan the Top & Slither, but I haven't danced it to see how it feels.

Are you requesting any C1 GCA slots at convention? I'd like to hear you call C1.

I've amended figure 2 and 10... My initial notes had flagged the 5/4 issue on figure 10 but I didn't update my sequence database. Duh.

On figure 6, I'm probably overcueing. My most recent calling experiences have been for newbie MS dancers or relatively weak A2 floors so I tend to overcue. I'll fix that sequence.

On figure 12, I'll test-drive the combo tonight and will report if anyone throws rotten vegetables at me. :-)

I'm not planning any convention calling or dancing at 2007 or 2008. It would be fun, but I may need to dedicate most of my spare time to organizing and staffing the 2009 convention promo table. The 2009 convention itself will be a total write-off as far as calling & dancing go, at least for me.
