Pan's Labyrinth
Jan. 21st, 2007 07:48 pmA group of six of us went to see "Pan's Labyrinth" at the AFI Silver Theater here in Silver Spring, MD.
My friends were a little surprised by the degree of graphic violence --the movie is set in the summer of 1944, in the late stages of the Spanish civil war-- although it was less violent than I was expecting based on reviews I've read. The movie is indeed very well done: the special effects are effectively presented, the transitions between Ofelia's fantasy world and the real world are seamless and cleverly performed, and all performances were superb.
No spoilers, just a comment that this movie was worth paying full ticket price for, unlike most dreck these days which are barely worth a matinee rate.
