Square dance-o-rama

Of late, I've noticed that I rarely get to square dance anymore. I have huge quantities of mic time available to me if desired but precious little opportunity to simply dance. That kinda sucks but I suppose I should have seen it coming.


In any case, last night was an exception: it was Plus/A2 night for the DC Lambda Squares. Of late, I've been calling more A2 than I've been dancing (and I haven't been calling much A2) so I was glad of the practice, particularly in anticipation of Cleveland's "Load The Boat" fly-in in two weeks and DCLS' "Harper's Ferry Hoedown" in a month.

This coming Saturday, Dayle is calling in Philadelphia so Kent & I will be teaching the Chesapeake Squares' MS class, the second session of eight. We'll start with a review of last week's excitement, then move on to cover:

split two
separate around one or two
do paso
lead right
star thru
circle to a line
bend the line

Next Tuesday, we'll be calling for CS' regular club night: class-level MS, full MS, Plus, A2, whatever the floor wishes.

Next Thursday is DCLS' A2/C1 night so I'll get even more floor time. Yay!

On Friday, we're off to the trailer in West Virginia but we have to take some of the calling gear with us as we'll be the entertainment for a couple of hours Saturday afternoon with an intro to square dancing for the rest of the campground. At least we can use the rec hall's sound system instead of having to bring our own speakers & amp; we've already confirmed we have the required cables & connectors to patch our laptop to their system.

And on Sunday, we will rest.

Yup...get used to it. I only dance when I go to flyins or convention, hardly ever locally...it's been that was for over 20 years. But you DO need to dance, or as a caller you'll lose the feel of what the dancers are doing.

I totally agree, and I will add: as a caller you'll lose the feel of what the dancers need from you.
