1. battlestar galactica:
   I'a addicted: it's simply a well-written and performed show with a compelling story line and great characters. And it makes me think: if were one of a small number of survivors fleeing disaster with limited resources, what would I try to preserve from my old culture and what would I let go? What would I be willing to do to survive? What would my priorities be, and how will I adjust conflicting demands?
2. canada:
   Ah, my home and native land. I miss the seasons, the wildlife, the culture, the politics, the people and just about everything else. Every time I step back into Canada, I feel completely that I belong there. There really is no place like home.
3. cubs:
   As I creep towards 40, my daddy tendencies are beginning to manifest. Only a few years ago, younger furry men weren't on my radar but they definitely catch my eye lately.
4. facial hair:
   A well-groomed furry man: who needs anything more? Moustache, full beard, goatee, van dyke... I'll take 'em all.
5. gay men:
   Gay men generally have been 80% of my social circle for the past 20 years. We provide each other support & common understanding, and a sense of community.
6. iagsdc:
   The International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs is an umbrella organization of LGBT square dance groups across the planet (where "the planet" is defined as the US, Canada, Denmark and Japan). It may be a dysfunctional family, but it's our family. :-)
7. muscle bears:
   The other white meat. :-)
8. sage:
   The System Administrators Guild is going through a serious transition at the moment as it separates itself from USENIX. I don't know if it will survive, but I'm hopeful. Back when my employer was willing to send me to conferences, I'd head to the LISA conference regularly: so many geeks, so much information to ingest. I do miss those conferences.
9. square dance:
   Square dancing has been my major social outlet for years. I used to dance 4 nights a week in the early 1990s in Toronto, including two-stepping, line dancing, clogging and square dancing. All that ended after moving to the US, but around 2000, I began dancing with the DC Lambda Squares and have started learning square dance calling under Dayle Hodge, abusing the good graces of the Chesapeake Squares and DC Lambda Squares regularly. DCLS runs two fly-ins per year, CS one: I get to work on them all and even dance periodically. Whee!
10. washington:
    God, I hate this city. No, really, I do. It's poorly designed, is abused as a test tube for any passing fad in Congress, has an excessive crime rate, crappy schools and a resident population so stupid they re-elected a convicted crack user, first as mayor and now as a city councillor. There are a few gleaming treasures in the city but for the most part, it's an embarrassment of a national capital.

The late President Kennedy refered to Washington DC as a city of northern charm and southern efficiency.

But it has GREAT museums!

Just make sure you take the Metro to go see them. It's a city of 500,000 cars and ten parking spots.

I lived in the greater Washington area for a year back in the '80s. I never drove in the city if I could avoid it.

Of course, your metro has an even more limited schedule than the MBTA in Boston!
